In January 2013, we launched our very first ‘Learn to Crochet’ course thinking it would be a one off, but have run one or two four week classes every month since then. It’s safe to say, we haven’t had a dull moment! That was, until March of this year.
Our crochet groups make up a huge part of the crafting community in our store, but with the Covid-19 restrictions we haven’t been able to carry on as normal. We’ve truly missed the learning, laughter and friendship that fills our little shop almost every day of the week. When we reopened in June, it was great to see so many familiar faces returning to Babes in the Wool not just for craft supplies, but just to say hello.
Many of our beginners started on a learn to crochet course and loved it so much we had to make an advanced carry on course. Over the last seven years, lots of our participants have formed their own crafting network, starting with likeminded strangers and becoming lifelong friends. From sharing tips and patterns to sharing coffees outside of class, we’ve watched our crocheters become social groups - something we have all missed over the last few months.
One of our favourite things to do is run projects with our crocheters as it’s always great to see everyone come together and make something. Whether it be a charity project, a shop window display, or getting up early to yarn bomb our local avenue, we know our crafters will be right there with us!
So, to our crocheters, we hope you’ve been keeping your hooks busy during lockdown, and we can’t wait until we can open our store for weekly groups once again!
Neither can we! The Happy Hookers want to be happy again! Who would have thought when our group met 7 years ago that we would make lifelong friendships and have so much fun. Miss it so much. Thank you Lesley xxx
