Free Crochet Market Bag Pattern
For the original blue market bag, we used 1 roll of Retwisst Chainy Cotton and for the yellow/purple version, we used Big Value Recycled Cotton Aran. This pattern uses a 5mm crochet hook.

8th round: 2ch, in BLO 1tr in each stitch around, ss to join.
Rounds 9-11: 1ch, dc in each stitch around, join with ss.
The bottom part of the bag is now completed. The next section will create the mesh.
12th round: 1ch, dc in same stitch, *ch5, miss 4 stitches, dc in next stitch*, *repeat* to end, ss into first dc.
13th round: *ch5, dc in 5ch space from previous round*, *repeat* to end but do not join. 5ch and dc in next 5ch space.
Continue in this spiral until mesh piece measures approx. 25cm/10”.
Top and Handles:
Next round: 3dc in each 5ch space around and join with ss. (54 stitches)
Next round: (first dc in same space as ch1) ch1, *dc in next 6 stitches, 2dc in next stitch*, *repeat to last 5 stitches*, dc in next four stitches, 2dc in last stitch. Join with ss. (62 stitches)
Next round: (first dc in same space as ch1) ch1, dc in each stitch around, join with ss.
Start of Handles:
Next round: (first dc in same space as ch1) ch1, dc10. (Start first handle) dc6, turn, and dc in these six stitches until you reach your desired handle length. Miss 9 stitches from last full round and join on the inside of the bag with yarn facing towards the stitches to be worked (this way you can carry on round to the next handle without having to break/rejoin yarn). Join handle to next six stitches, going through corresponding six stitches on the handle at the same time as the six from the main bag piece.
Dc10, and start second handle. Dc6, turn, and dc in these six stitches until length matches the first handle. Miss 9 stitches and join to main bag piece over the next 6 stitches.
Slip stitch in next stitch and fasten off.
Sew in any loose ends.
*Optional* - stitch the middle section of each handle together for a more padded grip.
