For this crochet pattern I used double knit yarn and a 4mm hook. The bookmark requires a really small amount of yarn so you can use scraps from your stash if you have shades of yellow, brown and green. You can also use different yarn weights; just make sure to adjust your hook size accordingly!
Sunflower
Leaving a tail long enough to attach to the stem at the end, make a magic ring or ch3 and join into a ring with a slip stitch.
Round 1: dc6 into ring. If you used the magic ring method, close your ring (6sts)
Round 2: 2dc in each st, ss to first dc (12sts)
Fasten off and change to yellow yarn for petals.
Round 3: join yellow yarn in any stitch with a ss. Ch2, tr in same st as ss, ch3. Then, to form a point at the top of the petal, ss in first of the 3 ch you have just made. Then tr into same base dc st. Ch2, ss to same base st. In next st: *ss, ch2, tr, ch3, ss in first of 3ch, tr, ch2, ss* repeat this pattern in every stitch around until you have 12 petals.
Fasten off.
Stem
Cast on with green yarn, and ch45. If you want your bookmark to be longer/shorter than this, you can adjust the amount of chain stitches.
Row 1: starting in 2nd ch from the hook, dc in each ch across.
Your dc strip will create a natural curl around. If it is tightly curled, gently pull on each end to make the curl looser.
At the end, ch8 - this will form the base for the leaf.
Working down one side of the 8ch, ss in second chain from the hook. Then dc in next st, htr in next st, tr in next st, dtr in next st, dtr in next st. In the last ch, (tr, tr, htr).
Now you will work back down the other side of the 8ch, mirroring the stitches you have done down the first side as follows:
(Htr, tr, tr) all in first ch. Then, dtr, dtr, tr, htr, dc, ss.
Fasten off.
To Assemble
Darn in both green ends and both yellow ends. With the long brown tail of yarn from the beginning, stitch the stem to the back of the sunflower, ensuring that your flower and leaf are both front facing. Sew in last brown end.
