The changing of seasons is always an exciting time for yarn shops, especially when it comes to Autumn/ Winter. New yarns, new patterns, fresh ideas - Autumn/ Winter collections never fail to impress, and 2022 is no different! Our yarn shop is full to the brim now that our deliveries have started to arrive for this season; in total, we have 11 brand new yarns launching this Autumn, and in this article I’m going to cover the ones from our Spanish supplier, Katia Yarns. We have eye-catching colourways, interesting textures, and a brand new ball designed specifically for granny square lovers. Here are this season’s latest and greatest yarns!
Katia is a company that seems to be dominating Autumn/ Winter 2022 with their wonderful collections of yarn. Our favourite Spanish brand had so many marvellous options that we ended up ordering 5 new ranges of yarn from them! Each line is beautiful and has lots to offer for knitters and crocheters who are planning their next project. First up we have Jazmin, a limited edition yarn that comes in pretty pastel-style multicolours. These balls are 150g in size and the yarn is velvety soft to the touch, made with 50% acrylic and 50% modal viscose. Ideal projects include blankets, sweaters and tops. This yarn looks stunning when knitted/ crocheted up, so it can create some really unique handmade garments.
One of our local customers, Sue, has just completed a gorgeous star blanket using Jazmin in shade 404 with Rico Design’s Organic Cotton DK in shade Dove Blue. Jazmin shades look beautiful on their own, but the balance of the solid shade in this project really highlights the Jazmin colourway. Take a look at this blanket above!

Our next yarn from Katia is called Tornasol, which arrived in store just a few days ago. This is another vibrant, variegated yarn that will be the cosy crafter’s number one choice this season. The colourways embody what autumn is all about, with rich, warm shades that make the most wonderful garments. Scarves, sweaters, hats or hand warmers - whatever your choice of project, Tornasol will be a great match!
This yarn is between a double knit and aran weight, and is comprised of 100% acrylic. These 100g balls are just £4.75 which is great value for a yarn like this. Click here to view Tornasol on our website!
Next up we have Katia’s Jarapa. This is a unique yarn that has already caught the attention of our local customers. Katia describes Jarapa as ‘an original tape with a handicraft appearance’; it is ideal for homeware projects such as baskets, bags and rugs. The fabric consists of a tape combined with a strand of thread and small strips of different coloured fabrics which are attached throughout the entire length of the yarn.
Here is where Jarapa gets its lovely name from:
‘As its name suggests, we’re inspired by Jarapa fabrics or lively colored rugs traditionally made with strips of fabric using handlooms in regions such as Andalucia and Murcia.’ - Katia Yarns
One of our local makers, Alison, has almost finished this fantastic bag (pictured above) using Jarapa, and is already planning to make a rug with this yarn when the bag is done! The yarn has such a unique texture that any project will stand out from the crowd, and it is completely different from everything else we stock in our yarn shop. Our next new yarn from Katia hasn’t arrived yet, but we are so excited for when it finally gets here. Introducing… Instagranny!
Colourful, eyecatching, and designed for granny square lovers, Instagranny’s name means ‘instant granny square’. Each ball contains enough yarn to create 3 granny squares, with a contrasting colour between each block of granny square yarn for joining your squares. A pattern is included with Instagranny so you can follow along and enjoy the easy, exact science of this yarn. Katia’s Instagranny is one of a kind and, no matter what you turn your granny squares into, this yarn will make your next project both simple and exciting!
Out final new yarn from Katia is called Marathon Chrome, a subdued multicolour yarn that contains 25% wool. These 100g balls are just £5.99 which is great value for such a high quality yarn. To make a size 12 women’s long-sleeved jumper, it takes approximately 5 balls. Marathon Chrome will help you create handmade garments to keep you warm this winter, while also providing a colour palette that is guaranteed to fit in with the rest of your wardrobe. Check out the gorgeous colourways below!
Marathon Chrome will be available on our website later this week. Stay tuned for the next edition where I will be covering new Autumn/ Winter 2022 releases from another yarn company!
