Here at Babes in the Wool, it’s been another busy couple of weeks with new yarns arriving left, right and centre! Our biggest announcement this month is something we’re very excited about, and that is just in time for planning winter projects. The big news? We are now officially stockists of Rowan! We’ve never stocked this brand before but they are very popular in the UK and, after they showed us some of their yarns, we just couldn’t resist putting in an order. Keep reading to learn about what’s new in November, and to discover a special offer we’re running with the first 5 purchases of Rowan yarns!
With our first order, Rowan very kindly sent us a few free copies of their latest magazine which is filled to the brim with free patterns and usually costs £13.99. So, the first 5 customers to purchase any of our Rowan yarns will receive a free magazine too!
The first Rowan range we ordered is called Norwegian Wool. This yarn is gorgeous in every way; it’s very high quality, soft, and comes in a beautiful collection of shades. The colours stand out as they are slight variations on classic shades, and look great as block colours or when used in a combination. This yarn is made with 100% wool and comes in 50g balls. The collection was created in collaboration with Norwegian designers, Arne & Carlos - you may remember the name as we have stocked some of their fabulous sock yarns before. As they have made this range with Rowan, they have released 2 pattern books featuring several knitted designs to accompany the yarn. The best part? Any purchase of Norwegian Wool comes with a free copy of one of these books! As well as free patterns, the books also give you a closer look at the yarn, the sheep it comes from, and some stunning scenes of Norway.
Norwegian sheep produce one of the most eco-friendly and animal-friendly fibres in the world, so we’re especially excited to be stocking this range.
The second range we ordered is called Alpaca Soft, a double knit yarn made with 70% virgin wool and 30% alpaca. This yarn has won awards for its blend of extrafine Merino, superfine merino and baby alpaca. It’s an unbelievably soft yarn that comes in a range of classic colours.
The final yarn we ordered from Rowan is called Felted Tweed, which is one of the company’s bestsellers. It’s considered a light double knit and is made up of 50% wool, 25% viscose and 25% alpaca (yes, we are obsessed with extra soft yarns). The wool used in this yarn is lightly felted, which makes it great for projects that need blocking. It is also a yarn that is recommended for lacework patterns. The knitted fabric is not just soft and cosy; it is also lightweight and easy to wear during any season.
One of the biggest draws of this range is the shades. They almost have a flecked effect, and each colour is inspired by nature. We are currently stocking 10 shades of this gorgeous yarn and it comes in 50g balls.
As well as ordering yarns from Rowan, we also couldn’t resist these gorgeous birchwood crochet hooks. We ordered just a few sizes for now and they will be available on our website later this week. My mum decided to try one of these hooks out and said it was lovely to work with; the birchwood is smooth and lightweight, meaning your stitches just glide off it.
As well as our new Rowan ranges, we also have a couple of new James C. Brett yarns. Technically these arrived in October but I haven’t had the chance to showcase them yet. If you follow us on social media, you may have already been wowed by these fantastic shades!
First we have Aurora, a magnificent multicolour range that is excellent value for money. These 100g balls are just £3.99, and the colourways feature perfectly balanced bright shades.
Quite a few of our customers have started projects using Aurora DK already. Check out the photo below of a granny square cardigan being made by Sheila. Sheila combined 3 different shades of Aurora for this vibrant project, and told us she managed to get 15 granny squares out of just one ball!
The second new range from James C. Brett is called Shhh…, which is also a multicolour double knit. This yarn’s makeup is slightly different as it has a 20% wool content, which almost makes the yarn seem like mohair without actually containing mohair. Shhh… DK is also great for crafting on a budget, and is again just £3.99 per 100g ball. The wool content is guaranteed to keep you warm this winter, and there are some fantastic shades to get wrapped up in!
