It’s time for Part 3 in my new series, The Summer of Stashbusting! Last time we set some creative intentions to make key rings in Week 3 and coasters in Week 4. Let’s start with a recap of the projects I made using yarn from my stash over the last couple of weeks. If you missed Part 2, click here.
For Week 3, I used the free crochet pattern for a cactus keyring that I suggested last time. When I dug out some lovely green cotton that was perfect for a handmade plant, I realised it was worsted weight and I had to size up. This meant that the cactus was going to be a little too big for a keyring. But, I loved the pattern, so I decided to make it anyway and turn it into a cute wall hanging!
This was a really fun project to make; the crochet pattern was the perfect mix of relaxing and challenging, and definitely got my creativity flowing. My best friend is coming to stay with me later this month and she loves anything to do with plants and cacti, so I’ve hung it in the spare room as a gift for her to keep.
For Week 4, I chose the super cute Daisy Coaster by Whiskers and Wool. This is such a fun design and was a great match for a tiny ball of yellow cotton I found in my yarn stash. I had to rummage really deep to find a ball of white cotton to go with it, but eventually found one with an abandoned project attached to it. I frogged this, recovered a long lost stitch marker, and started crocheting!
After I’d finished the coaster, I noticed a small stain from where I had previously spilled coffee on it (oops). I remembered that was why I had stopped using the yarn, but as it’s now a coaster, that doesn’t matter at all! I love this design so much that I’m going to make a couple more to use outside on my patio table.
Did you make any key rings or coasters from last time?
Welcome to Part 3!
