Welcome Back!
I hope you’ve all had a great start to the month and have lots of exciting projects on your hooks and needles. This edition is all about creative play: fun patterns, new experiences, and giving your creativity the freedom to lead you where it chooses! Our theme was inspired by a new pattern book from Ricorumi and the wool shop window display that this led to, which we will delve into in this edition. It can be really refreshing to try something new with your craft; by tackling something that’s a little outside of the box, it can give you a new perspective when approaching problem solving with your usual projects. So put your feet up, surround yourself with yarn, and let your imagination run wild - let’s get stuck in!
This week’s instalment of Yarn Corner is all about a yarn I’ve been very excited to cover: Rowan Felted Tweed. With gorgeous colours and stunning designs, there’s a lot to love about this range. According to Rowan, this is one of their most popular and best selling lines, and our local customers can certainly attest to that. The yarn is a lightweight double knit that has a beautiful tweed effect. The texture of this yarn is one of a kind, made with 50% lightly-felted wool, 25% viscose and 25% alpaca.

Behind the Scenes: Crochet Your Face Window Display
You see what I mean when I said a little outside of the box, right? A couple of weeks ago, a brand new crochet pattern book arrived from Ricorumi: Crochet Your Face. As always, Ricorumi has gone above and beyond to create something different and unique for makers to sink their hooks into. Crochet Your Face is a collection of crochet patterns that covers all types of facial features. You can pick your own eyes, eyebrows, nose, mouth, beard, glasses and hair, and mix and match to your heart’s content! Creative play could definitely describe my last couple of weeks with crochet as I’ve been doing a little bit of everything. As well as completing 2 more rounds of my star blanket, I’ve had some smaller projects on the go too. I’ve been meaning to make another set of scrubbies for a while now as I go through them quite fast when I wear makeup. I finally found the remainder of a ball of Rico Creative Cotton Aran which, if you’ve been here a while, you’ll know is my first choice for scrubbies! I used my go-to free crochet pattern (click here to view) and made a set of 6 over the weekend.
In the mini edition I shared last week, I gave you a sneak peek at a Valentine’s project I was working on. I found this gorgeous lacy heart motif; technically it’s a Christmas pattern but I thought it was ideal for Valentine’s. I did a practice one in red before making another in white, which I’m going to use to make a wedding card later this month. I love how they turned out and I’m hopefully going to make some more as I really enjoy working with crochet cotton - the end result is always so pretty! Click here to view the free pattern I used.
The other project I’ve been working on is my crochet scarf. I’m so close to the end of this make but it still feels so far! I’ve finally finished the…

The Yarn Journal: Check In
Seeing as we don’t have any new Yarn Journal pages to print in this edition, I thought I’d do a little check in and keep you in the loop with how it’s going. So far I’m really enjoying the monthly habit tracker. When things get busy sometimes it feels like I haven’t had any time to relax, so colouring in the box really makes me mindful of the time I took for myself and I can appreciate the moment a bit more. It takes just a few seconds to do but gives you a sense of accomplishment and reflection at the end of the day. I’m also enjoying the finished project tracker as I know I’ll be using the heart motif pattern again so I’ve recorded the name, yarn and hook size I used. It will also save me time next time I’m looking for my scrubbie pattern.
As for Yarn Bingo, I thought I would’ve crossed a lot more of these off by now! It’s definitely giving me some motivation to…

Community Creations
We have tonnes of creativity to share this week with our community creations. In our yarn shop, we’ve just started stocking a selection of fabulous fabrics from Rico Design. One of our local makers, Pauline, was kind enough to make a beautiful bag for our window display using 2 of these new fabrics. This bag is reversible and looks perfect for storing a creative project on the go! Such a fun and colourful tote bag.
Next we have a super cute baby sweater which has been crocheted by Rosemary. The bobble design on this jumper is adorable and it looks great in a solid shade. Rosemary used Wendy 400g Aran yarn for this project in shade ‘Clematis’. It looks lovely!
Finally, we have an almost finished hot water bottle cover which is being knitted by Helen. The design is amazing and comes from the pattern book pictured below. Helen is using 2 shades of Rowan Alpaca Soft, a relatively new addition to our yarn shop, and told us that she loves knitting with it as it’s incredibly soft! This project will be perfect for keeping away the rest of the winter chill.
Thank you to Pauline, Rosemary and Helen for sharing your #babesinthewoolhull projects with us! I can’t wait to see what our community comes up with next time…
